ROUNDER'S
PIZZERIA
1203 West 6th Street
(512) 477-0404
Mon-Fri (11:30am-10pm) Sat-Sun (2pm-10pm)
Located
a couple of blocks West of Lamar on 6th Street, Rounders Pizzeria
offers New York style pizza and more to Austin diners. Starting
with the pizzas, you can get the 14” Casino, or the HUGE 18”
Casino Royal (Royal with Cheese to you Frenchmen). Available toppings
include onions, tomatoes, basil, broccoli, zucchini, green bell
peppers, squash, olives, mushrooms, sweet Italian sausage, pepperoni,
anchovies, meatballs, bacon strips, ricotta/feta/parmesan reggiano
cheeses, and much more. Also available are huge calazones, and five
types of salads. Staunch supporters of Austin’s music scene,
Rounders has a live DJ every Tuesday, and the occasional band playing
in the restaurant. Their $3 beers are also certainly worth mentioning,
as well as the casino like atmosphere and furnishings. Try your
luck at Rounders, for dine in or carry out.
The
Chicago (or any) Burger at Casino
El Camino
There
are two types of people who hang out downtown: Those who know that
Casino El Camino has absolutely THE best burgers downtown and perhaps
in the city, and those who are living a dirty, empty lie. Located
just West of Red River on 6th street, Casino El Camino is absolutely
the place to go for a bar district patron craving a burger. Of six
different burgers to choose from, all named after different cities
in the USA, I almost always choose The Chicago Burger, a $5.25 masterpiece
served with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese. Yes, it’s
a bacon cheeseburger. While waiting on your food (and I do mean
waiting) you can get a beer or a drink at the bar and listen to
one of the best metal/punk rock jukeboxes in town. The bar is staffed
by some of Austin’s coolest people, and there is always a
good movie playing overhead with closed captioning. Conducive to
real men and loose women, Casino is also an excellent place to get
laid. This never hurts when choosing a place to eat. THE FOOD DUDE
