Ferocity. Calculated ferocity. What does it mean to you? It is just another day at the probation office for Hipsterectomy. Fast, tight and loud, please!!!  This writer thinks that the best way to gauge a bands’ true worth is to hear/see  them live. You know, unadulterated by studio effects; with no gimmicks, mirrors or strings. The raw energy of good rock and roll is enough to make you wanna throw rocks at yer dear old grandma. When you speed up that rock and roll into punk rock it picks up momentum. When you speed that punk rock up and mix it with a healthy dose of metal, you have HARDCORE. Oh GLORIOUS HARDCORE!! Hipsterectomy is an Austin based five piece ensemble that likes it loud and lewd. Is there any other way? This seven song offering opens with a right cross in “Leave Me Alone”. The guitars and drums mount an immediate assault, and  vocalist Ben Pickett spits out the words like Mark Arm on a boat load of trucker snuff.  Sick and tired of “social drama”, and not afraid to let ya know about it. “Think For Yourself” is a great follow up to “Leave me..” and “Douchebag Season” completes the trifecta of how to deal with assholes, shitheads and drama queens. Morals aside, there is nothing loose about Hipsterctomy (ATX). The drums of James Fitzsimmons are like a metronome to start a war to, there is NOTHING “back” about his “beats”. Marty Medved on lead bass and aerial stunts, completes the rhythm section. The metal/hardcore mosaic is complete with the relentless guitars of Breadstick Von Bulemic and Mike Danger. Ben Pickett’s rabid vocals are the final round in the chamber. These cats are so “tight” and these tunes are so polished, I forget this is a live record, until Pickett asks the crowd for a beer or some gum, preferably beer. Anything BUT water.  “Manic Psychopath” is a pounding intro to 80’s hardcore 101. And by the look in Pickett’s eyes, this might be an “autobiography”.
Fuckin’ Marty Medved’s bass opens “Cocaine Cowboy” like a call to arms. A tale of the rise and fall of a white marching powder peddler. The chronicles of a Texas “valley boy” who made connections in the Mexican pen and never looked back. The leads on this song pop and sting like a live wire downed in a storm. This record kicks you in yer privates from the first note, and doesn’t let up. And if you like REAL hardcore, like me, you don’t want it to stop. “Zombie” twists and turns, and proves that these cats have their chops down tight. The assault on yer couch sittin’ crotch scrathin’ ass is complete with “Arson Party”. An homage ( yeah, I said homage.. bitch!!) to flaming mayhem caused by deviants on the prowl the night before Halloween. DEVILS’ NIGHT !  The chaos slows for the first time on the whole record with the feedback and wind down at the end of “Arson..”
Like an engineer mashing the brake on the runaway train that is “Live at The Grand.”
Hipsterectomy packs a double album full of tenacity and raw talent into one EP.                  ONE  “LIVE EP” !!!   No gimmicks. No schticks. No bullshit. If you see Hipsterctomy coming down the street, git out of their way or pay the price. Cuz these fuckers are for REAL.
